I’m too busy with college just now. I am hoping to return to blogging, but not for a while.

Getting Older, 8th September 2006

Well, I turn 24 on Monday. I had really wanted to get lots of stuff out to publishers before my birthday. It hasn’t happened. So next best thing, I’m making my 25th year the year. From September 11 to September 11 it will be submit, submit, submit.

The comics away. The anthology will be ready for Christmas. I’m aiming to complete the novel, and have it submitted to a contest, by January 31st.

Yesterday, I heard about an anthology wanting erotic fantasy short stories. So I started writing. I have until the 15th of September to submit. Just lucky its email submissions.

I already had an idea I was toying with, so its just a case of writing.

Tomorrow, we’re going to Blackpool for a day, a birthday treat. We’re not taking the kids. So four hours on the bus each way, I’ll get the anthology stories edited.

Which I better go print.

I have a good feeling about this – this is my year.

Looking Up, 07th Sept 2006

Things are looking up for me. With the bits I salvaged, and the bits I wrote, I’m at 45k words. Halfway to the 95 I’m aiming for.

It’s going to need another edit after its finished, but still – the first ten chapters are superb. In my opinion. But then, I would say that, wouldn’t I?

On other news, I’m starting college. I decided a few months back that I would love to open a bookshop, so I’m off to study business management for a year. Should be fun.

Oh, and I had my nail removed. It’s mostly painless now. So, things are looking up…

Close call, August 31st 2006

Leigh fell down all our stairs. I was standing at the bottom, holding Jessicca. Leigh fell from the top. She hit two stairs, then went into the air. She fell head first.

I stood at the bottom, knowing there was nothing I could, thinking she would die. Eight stairs, then landing neck first. I knew her neck would break.

Somehow, I caught her. I grabbed by the neck – there’s a red line around as if she has been strangled. I swung her to my hip, and she kicked her sister in the head.

As Jessicca screamed, Leigh calmly told me she’d fallen.

That was some scary stuff.

Novel, 30th August 2006

I gave up on my novel a few months back. I’d been working on it for well over a year anyway. Maybe even two, not sure.

Yesterday, I printed it off, and spent all day reading it. It’s a lot better than I expected – but the end is very weak.

Five months? Not a problem – I did the first three chapters this morning, before going to work.

Well, I sent my proposal off to the publisher today. Here’s hoping.

I’ve also decided to redo my novel and put it in the writers and artists yearbook competition. That gives me five months. If I can manage a chapter a week, I’ll have 25 chapters.

Better get started.

A few years ago I met a woman through Absynthe Muse. If you’re a young writer, I recommend that site. Anyway, she is an American with her own editing business, and she has helped me tremendously. Most lately, she helped me write the cover letter to my comic submission. A few more touches and it will be ready to post.

Writing, 23rd August

Well, I finished this draft of my anthology story. I’ve almost finished the crit I’m doing for Sasha, and I’ve finished that comic. I need to buy ink cartridges so I can get it printed and posted. Until then I just keep going over it and over it and over it.

Tips, 23rd August

In Britain we don’t have a set percentage to tip. So when I was in Pizza Hut getting Leigh ice cream the other day, I paid about £4.50 for a £3.40 meal. They brought me £1.20 change and I felt like an idiot.

Last time I leave a tip in there.

Busy, 18th August

I’m doing a lot of overtime, so that’s why I’m not posting. My contract runs out on the 9th of September and if I don’t get kept on, I may not have a wage after this next one.

So I’m making it a big one.

I’m also busy writing. I read a book called Writers on Comic Scriptwriting and discovered half the writers in there are British, and mail or fax the scripts across. So I’m changing my tv script to a comic and sending it to Dark Horse.
